In supplementen met Q10 wordt doorgaans de geoxideerde vorm van deze nutrint, genaamd ubiquinon, toegepast. Geoxideerde Q10 wordt na orale inname grotendeels omgezet in ubiquinol, de gereduceerde vorm van Q10. Dit conversieproces, dat door uiteenlopende oorzaken (zoals op hogere leeftijd) moeizaam kan verlopen, is niet nodig bij gebruik van ubiquinol.
